My classes are informed by my understanding of the body from dance and other somatic approaches such as Alexander Technique which I have studied for over 6 years. The practice promotes strength, flexibility, relaxation and awareness and draws upon the various yoga styles I have studied – a class maybe a quietly dynamic flow one week to more alignment based the next; being open to the unexpected means we don't get stuck in another pattern through our yoga practice. Alignment is used to create spaciousness in the body for energy to flow freely and I encourage a sense of self–exploration, curiosity and playfulness, all the while being guided by our breath.
I am interested in yoga creating space in the body, the mind and the heart so that we can allow ourselves to be open to all experience, the challenging as well as the pleasurable, and live fully in the present. I believe that practicing yoga on our mats is like preparing the soil for the seed and our practice of yoga off our mat is sowing the seeds of our life.
Ruth has been practising yoga for over 5 years. She has studied a variety of styles including Iyengar, Scaravelli, biomechanical, restorative, yoga therapy, Yin and dynamic practices with teachers such as Catherine Annis, Anna Ashby, Kate Ellis, Jane Kersel, Alaric Newcombe and Jeff Phenix amongst others. She has also take workshops and intensives with Donna Farhi, Bo Forbes, Paul Grilley, Jean Hall, Doug Keller, Sally Kempton, Olof Kuljit, Jasmine Lieb, Tias Little, John Stirk and Max Strom.
Ruth gained her British Wheel of Yoga/Yoga Alliance certification from Triyoga London in 2010 and has since taught at Google, ZBI Europe, Bene, HOF, and Ren for BeYoCo, Central School of Speech and Drama, and Evolve Wellness and Happiness Centres.
